Practical notes
Best for
- Wind-hardened running
- Seals at Mutton Cove in season
- Race-prep exposure training
Watch for
- Fully exposed to westerly and northwesterly wind for the whole route
- Unfenced cliff edge at Hell's Mouth and Navax Point
- Loose, ankle-turning ground on the descents into Basset's Cove
- No realistic shelter or bail-out until Portreath
Facilities
- National Trust car park at Godrevy (charges apply)
- Toilets and cafe at Portreath
Season
Best attempted in settled weather. This is the stretch of coast where forecast wind speed actually changes whether the run is enjoyable or just an argument with the air.
- Parking
- National Trust pay car park at Godrevy. Free-to-park street spaces near Portreath beach fill early in summer.
- Public transport
- Limited. Seasonal bus services run near both ends; do not plan a same-day return without checking current routes first.
- Conditions
- Firm cliff-top grass in dry weather, greasy and slippery within a day of rain. Loose stone on the short, steep drops into the coves.
- Navigation
- Coast path waymarks throughout, but keep well back from the edge; the path runs close to unfenced drops in several places.
