Crantock and Pentire Point West Loop
A short loop from Crantock village over Pentire Point West to the quiet cove at Porth Joke, coming back through West Pentire's fields. Across the Gannel, Newquay is loud and close; on this side it might as well be another county.

Practical notes
Best for
- A first taste of headland running
- Evening loops when the light goes gold over the Gannel
- Poppies and corn marigolds at West Pentire in June
Watch for
- The Gannel estuary crossings to Newquay are tidal and not part of this route — treat them as a separate project
- Rabbit holes in the dune grass
- Unfenced edges above Porth Joke
Facilities
- Village car park, pub and shop in Crantock
- Nothing at Porth Joke, which is the point of Porth Joke
Season
Year-round and quick-draining. June brings the famous wildflower fields and the photographers that follow them.
- Parking
- The village car park is the safe choice; the beach car park at Crantock can gridlock on surf days.
- Public transport
- Buses connect Crantock with Newquay in season. The tidal Gannel shortcuts on foot need local tide knowledge — default to the bus.
- Conditions
- Dune grass, field-edge path and firm headland turf, with one sandy pull off the beach if you add the shore variant.
- Navigation
- Keep seaward around the headland and take the signed field path back from Porth Joke. Fifteen minutes of concentration, total.
